Vehicles banned from downtown HCMC for New Year celebrations
In anticipation of New Year's Eve celebrations and firework displays, the Ho Chi Minh City transport department has announced that vehicles will be restricted from entering 10 downtown streets from Sunday afternoon.
The fireworks are scheduled to illuminate the sky for 15 minutes, beginning at midnight on January 1, 2024, at two distinct locations: the Saigon River tunnel entrance in Thu Duc City and Dam Sen cultural park in District 11. A countdown ceremony is also planned for Sunday night at Nguyen Hue walking street in District 1. To facilitate traffic management and prevent congestion, a vehicle ban will be enforced on the Nguyen Hue section (from Le Thanh Ton to Ton Duc Thang) from 3 p.m. on Sunday until 1 a.m. on Monday.
Additional restrictions will be imposed on specific downtown routes, such as sections of Le Loi, Dong Khoi, Ton Duc Thang, Nguyen Tat Thanh, and Ham Nghi, from 8 p.m. on Sunday to 1 a.m. on Monday. Other streets subject to vehicle bans during this period include sections of Hai Trieu, Ly Tu Trong, Le Thanh Ton, Dong Du, and Mac Thi Buoi. Furthermore, vehicles will be prohibited on roads surrounding Me Linh Square and the Ba Son, Khanh Hoi bridges.
